We seek to improve the product by using metrics data and feedback received. Improvement applies to the quality of the product, the quality of service provided to customers and the ways of working of the team. Improvement means seeking to reinforce and repeat good qualities and behaviours as well as seeking to eliminate bad qualities and behaviours.
Indicators
Inspection and adaptation is a key tenet of the adaptive mindset. Product teams seek to improve the quality of their backlog, the priorities in the backlog and their ways of working by using data to help make objective decisions. Data is obtained by measurement and by seeking feedback from customers and other stakeholders.
Technical Debt arises both from our incremental approach to engineering and because we sometimes consciously convert the work required to correct escaped defects into Technical Debt. A good understanding of the scale and complexity of technical debt allows teams to allocate appropriate levels of effort to its resolution and to correctly prioritise repayment of technical debt relative to other work.
