The organisation’s capability roadmap is a unified view across all the product roadmaps of how the needed capabilities will evolve. Through the roadmap, the organisation can plan and implement its response so that it remains able to deliver the needed capabilities.
Capabilities that an organisation should consider include skills, knowledge, technology and function. The organisation’s response to the need to deliver a new capability will reflect the perceived value and importance of that capability. Value-adding, customer focused capabilities will demand more attention than peripheral, administrative capabilities.
Understanding the full range of capabilities the organisation must display helps it to respond in a coherent and consistent fashion.
